What is Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is the application of treatment to restore and optimize mobility or physical functioning. The provision of physiotherapy treatment by trained and licensed professionals is governed by the College in each provincial jurisdiction and our physiotherapists are all members of the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.
At Summit Sport Physiotherapy we have physiotherapists with unique skills and special interests (sport physiotherapy, complex spinal rehabilitation, team fitness programming) and who utilize a variety of different methods to provide safe and effective treatment for a wide variety of conditions.

A few of the more common conditions that impair functional mobility are:

• Neck and back pain
• Tendonitis
• Patello-femoral syndrome
• Rotator cuff syndrome
• Ankle sprains
• Carpal tunnel syndrome
• Tennis elbow
• TMJ dysfunction
• Headaches

Types of Treatment

Manual Therapy

  • joint mobilization, stretching, spinal manipulation, traction 

Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS)

• dry needling, electrical current needling

Exercise Prescription

• core stabilization, balance/proprioception training, sport-specific retraining, stretching, strengthening

Electrotherapy

• ultrasound, muscle stimulation, TNS, IFC

Education

• posture correction, activity modification, arthritis management, ergonomics, personal training

Capnography

• computerized breathing assessment and retraining
